How’s everyone’s summer going? Enjoying this beautiful Calgary rain, in the middle of summer? Hey, at the very least, at least it’s not snowing! (If it does snow, you have free reign to blame me for calling it.)
ANYWAYS, just a few updates to let everyone know what’s going on, some preparation is in place for the academic year about to start, and even a job posting!
Let’s start off with some news about the school this year, currently, the department is recruiting students for an Outreach committee! The intention of this committee is to have students who volunteer help organize and lead events dedicated towards increasing knowledge of computer science! The target audience so far is mainly people applying for post-secondary education, first year undeclared majors, and anyone else who’s interested in learning about computer science but don’t know where to start! There’s a potential to roll this into a mentorship program as well, so if you have experience already, you’ve got a step up! For anyone interested, shoot an email out to email@example.com, or back to us, and we’ll get you in contact!
With the advent of the new year, the department is also looking into making changes towards the curriculum for undergrad students, and where we should be taking our program. As we are the undergrad society, we’re looking for any and all feedback about the current curriculum, and your opinions! We will be setting up a feedback form shortly on our website, and attaching it to the end of our newsletters starting around the beginning of the school year, so please, come out and give us your opinions! All results will be anonymized, and if these changes are as big as we think they’re going to get, your honesty is going to be far more important. I know it’s cliched to say your voice matters, but if all these students complain about certain classes(and I have my fair share of complaints as well, don’t worry), we will be taking a serious consideration towards it! Keep your eyes peeled starting September, and let us know what you think!
So, on August 5th(Yes I understand this is very late), there’s a VR game jam! Details can be found here, with a grand prize of a booth at CVR 2017, and 8 two hour VR business consultations! If you went to the VR workshop, use your newfound skills to tear it up!
Lastly, we’ve got a job posting looking for a web developer! For more information, check Job Posting Web Design, and if you have any questions shoot an email out to Megan!
That’s all for now folks! Until next time, enjoy the rest of your summer!
