Hello World!

Just a small update for ya all today, we’ve been contacted by Tikkun Olam Makers: Calgary Student Chapter(ooof, that’s a mouthful), or the TOM:CSC(Tom’s cosecant???), and they’re looking for people from the CPSC department and faculty to take part in UCAN:Campus Ability Network!

You know I’m always terrible with describing what people say, and you should definitely know my weakness to just copy and paste type things out fully of course that’s what my job is, so, without further ado,

Dear fellow undergraduate students,

Are you looking for ways to change lives with your skill set? Are you passionate about design, technology, and rapid prototyping?

We are Tikkun Olam Makers: Calgary Student Chapter (TOM:CSC), and we bring together multidisciplinary technical teams and people living with disabilities to address neglected needs with technology. From March 16-June 16, we will be operating UCAN:Campus Ability Network. For three hours every week, teams will work on developing and prototyping a technology solution to an everyday challenge posed by disability.

Examples of projects our community has taken on in the past include a haptic-feedback device for posture correction of the visually-impaired, a task-planning scheduler for non-linear thinkers such as those with autism spectrum disorder, a portable track lift for quadriplegia, and an adjustable analog equalizer for hearing-loss correction.

We are seeking creative, talented, collaborative people to build assistive technology, and encourage individuals from engineering, technology, biomechanics, kinesiology, occupational therapy, and design to apply. This is a great opportunity to share ideas and learn new skills, all while making a real difference in someone’s life.

If you are interested in designing, making, and creating technology solutions to complex problems, please fill out the application form here: http://goo.gl/b9r8be
